In coordination with a broad coalition of Michiganders and business, housing, economic development, anti-poverty, energy and environmental groups, I write to respectfully request you prioritize significant investment to tackle the housing challenges facing Michigan families. The MI Affordable, Healthy Homes proposal is a comprehensive $1.65 billion investment that will ensure all Michiganders have affordable, healthy, comfortable homes.

Michigan's homes are showing their age, and residents are feeling it. Wintry or hot air seeps in depending on the season, and we have to crank up our heaters or fans in response. Storms exposed our unreliable electricity and our aging roofs and walls. Instead of days at the pool, we spent days wading through waterlogged basements.

All the while, utility bills, rent and house prices rose and rose while our wages stagnated. Studies show full-time EMTs can’t afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. Small business employees would have to work two full-time jobs to afford a similar place. And for those of us looking to buy that American Dream home, one out of three houses on our blocks are impossible to afford for the average Michigander.

Our proposal will make buying, renting and living in healthy, comfortable homes fit the budgets of Michiganders while improving our communities and environment.

We want to, 1) build new homes for low-income and middle-income residents, 2) retrofit current low- and middle-income homes so they are energy efficient and free of toxins like asbestos and lead, and 3) attract, train and retain workers who can build and retrofit homes.

A $1.65 billion budget investment could do just that. Michigan has billions of dollars it must spend. Let's use it to build something better.

Your location data (residential address or postcode) it is used to locate your elected representative, to pre-populate your email signature and to provide The Campaigner with a visualisation of the location of the support for this campaign.
All other data you may enter, including your email address, name, telephone number, commentary and so on is used by The Campaigner to advocate for the campaign’s goals and where required may be sent to the target of the campaign.

The data collected by Do Gooder is also used by us in aggregate form to improve the service and may be held on your behalf outside your country of residence by our third party service providers. These providers are bound by contract to only use personal information on our behalf, in accordance with agreed terms. While the privacy laws of the country in which personal information is stored or transferred may be different from those in your country, we will always have safeguards in place when storing or transferring personal information.
